Good records are the fastest route to a business loan. Here are five simple habits every small business owner can start today.

When you apply for a business loan, the first thing a lender wants to understand is your cash flow. Businesses that keep simple, consistent records get faster decisions and often better terms.

1. Record every sale, every day

Write down each sale as it happens — cash, EcoCash, swipe or credit. A daily total is far easier to reconcile than a monthly guess.

2. Separate business and personal money

Use a dedicated bank or mobile money account for the business. Mixing the two makes it hard to prove what the business really earns.

3. Keep receipts for expenses

Stock purchases, rent, transport and wages all count. File receipts in a folder or snap a photo on your phone.

4. Review your numbers weekly

Set aside 15 minutes each week to check sales against expenses. You will spot problems early and know exactly how much you can afford to repay.

5. Track who owes you

If you sell on credit, keep a debtor list with dates and amounts. This also helps if you later need invoice discounting.
